Big Dig Museum Income: Display Artifacts After Prestige

Big Dig / Windows PC / Windows full release (19 October 2026); checked 20 October 2026

In Big Dig’s Windows full release, finding an artifact is not enough to earn museum money: you must put it on display. If income is zero after prestige despite finding items, check the museum’s displays before spending more on digging upgrades.

This guide covers that earning loop. You need access to the museum and at least one artifact found in your current run. It does not give an income formula or claim which upgrades or exhibits survive every prestige.

  1. Unearth an artifact while digging. Treat this as a find, not proof that museum income has started.
  2. Go to the museum and place the artifact on display. Confirm that a find is actually exhibited on the museum floor. Finding items and exhibiting them are separate actions.
  3. Check the museum income readout after placement. Compare the state with the same run before placement. If you have only found items and left them undisplayed, complete step 2 first.
  4. Only then consider further renovation. Museum renovations can improve profits, but buying upgrades does not replace the required display step. This guide does not recommend a purchase order or invent upgrade prices.

01 / FIND

Unearth an artifact.

02 / DISPLAY

Place it in the museum.

03 / CHECK

Compare the income readout.

Original process diagram. Finding alone does not complete the earning loop.

Big Dig players who have prestiged should recheck whether their newly found artifacts are actually displayed. A player reported finding many items after the first prestige while earning zero; the developer’s clarification was that artifacts do not earn until displayed. Go back through the same sequence: find an artifact in the current run → visit the museum → put it on display → inspect the income readout. The clarification establishes the display requirement, not a complete table of what prestige resets. Do not infer that every prior upgrade or artifact carries over.

What you can see Next useful action What it does not establish
Artifacts found, no exhibits placed Put a find on display Finding alone does not establish earnings
Zero income after prestige Check current displays, then compare income after placement Zero alone does not prove a broken save
An artifact visibly on display but no earnings Record the run state and the income readout This guide has no verified universal fix for that different case

Record whether this is before or after prestige, what artifact is displayed and what the income indicator shows. Include a screenshot of the museum and the game version when asking for help through Big Dig’s Steam discussions. Those details distinguish an undisplayed find from a separate issue. No verified reason here supports deleting your save or restarting the game as a fix.

The Windows full release launched on 19 October 2026. The old demo was retired before launch; its progress does not transfer, and mechanics changed for the full version. Use this guide for the full release, not a demo save. Some older discussions concern demo-only upgrade display problems. They do not prove that the same issue exists in the release. Check the game and version before following a proposed workaround.

Museum income check

Your checklist stays on this page; it is not a game save.

No. In Big Dig, the artifact needs to be on display to earn museum money. Unearthing it completes only the first part of the loop.

Check display placement first. Renovations improve museum profits, but they are not a replacement for putting your finds on display. This guide has no verified prices or return-on-investment ranking.

Does this tell me everything prestige resets?

Section titled “Does this tell me everything prestige resets?”

No. The verified answer covers the display requirement after a player’s first prestige. It does not establish a complete reset-retention rule or an optimal prestige time.
